Find Skate Spots Everywhere

I’ve been working on a side project that’s a bit different from my usual device management and automation content. It’s called ShredMap — a community-driven iOS app for discovering and sharing skateboarding spots around the world.

What is ShredMap

ShredMap is built for skaters who want to find new places to ride, whether you’re exploring your own city or traveling somewhere new. The app features an interactive map filled with skateparks, street spots, DIY spots, plazas, and more — all contributed by the skating community.

Here’s what you can do with ShredMap:

• Discover spots nearby or anywhere in the world — Filter by spot type (skatepark, street, DIY, plaza, etc.) and see ratings, photos, and details from other skaters
• Add new spots — Found a hidden gem? Add it to the map with photos, a description, and location details so others can find it
• Check in at spots — Track where you’ve skated and build up your check-in streak
• Rate and review — Help the community by rating spots and leaving feedback
• Share clips — Post your skate clips and see what other riders are landing
• Follow other riders — Connect with skaters, see their spots, and check out their clips
• RSVP to events — Find local contests, meetups, and skate jams happening near you
• Earn badges — Get recognized for your contributions — adding spots, posting clips, checking in consistently, and more

Why I Built It

I’ve been skating for years, and one thing that’s always been frustrating is finding spots when you’re somewhere new. Google Maps might show you a skatepark, but it won’t tell you if it’s any good, if it’s crowded, or if there’s a hidden street spot two blocks away that the locals love.

I wanted an app that crowdsources local knowledge from skaters themselves. The people who actually ride these spots know which ones are worth the trip and which ones to skip. ShredMap puts that knowledge in your pocket.

It’s also been a fun way to combine two things I enjoy — building software and skateboarding. The app is built with SwiftUI and Firebase, and I’ve learned a ton shipping it to the App Store.
